Subaru Attack Back At Full Strength

The WBR - Wilson Brothers Racing team today confirmed it will be running two cars at the fourth and final round of this year's Australian Manufacturers Championship, being held at Victoria's Sandown Raceway on the 29th and 30th of November.

The team's lead driver Lee Castle will again be behind the wheel of the number 25 Subaru WRX STi, and will be looking to continue his outstanding recent form.

Castle has had a sensational debut in national level motor racing with the WBR team, and is currently leading the Class A Championship, with a virtually unbeatable points advantage.

Throughout the previous round at Tasmania's Symmons Plains, Castle was unstoppable, winning all three races after qualifying fastest in trying conditions.

Earlier at the second round at Oran Park, a class A win in the second race proved the pace of the car and driver combination, with an overall victory just out of reach of the team.

The opening round was an up and down affair, with a rain shortened first handicap race followed by a vibration in the second race, which caused a precautionary pit stop.

However on resumption, Castle ripped around the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit to set a new outright Production Car lap record, and fire a warning shot to the competition.

Castle is looking forward to the Sandown round, and taking home the Class A trophy.

LAUREN GRAY WINNING ON TARMAC AND THE DIRT AFTER AUTOCROSS DEBUT

LAUREN GRAY is most accustomed to driving her Toyota Corolla Echo Sportivo around the circuits of Australia in the Australian Manufacturers Championship, for production cars.
And that’s going well this season, Gray leading class E of the championship well ahead of a factory backed Hyundai.

But recently the 21-year-old Altona (Melbourne) local has made the transition to the dirtier side of Motorsport following her Autocross debut recently behind the wheel of a Nissan Silvia.

In only her second meeting ‘on the dirt’, Gray won the ladies class at the Melton Autocross last week and impressed onlookers despite having to learn a completely different driving style from what she’s used to.

It was a hot, dry and dusty day at the Western Victoria Autocross stage however it did nothing to dampen Gray’s enthusiasm for her newfound rallying abilities.
“It has been a great learning experience and totally different to what I’m used to,” Lauren enthused.

”I used to think that there was no grip on the dirt but It wasn’t as bad as I thought – there was quite a lot, but I have to give credit to the rally drivers out there because it’s not the easiest job in the world!

”The toughest challenge was trying to get the car sideways – it’s completely different to what I try to do in the production car!”
With expert tuition from Rally ace Will Orders, Gray hopes to make further inroads into the skill set needed to drive at full speed on dirt.

”I’m looking forward to doing some more Autocross in the future,” Gray said.

”Not only is it a lot of fun but it’s teaching me some new skills. The more time I spend in a car the better – doesn’t matter if it’s on bitumen or dirt!”

The final round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship will be held at Sandown Raceway between November 29 – 30.

Gray currently holds a 42-point lead in class E of the series and will be looking to wrap up the title at her home race.
